One of the important tools in the study, operation and evaluation of the weather modification projects and airborne and ground based cloud seeding is using weather numerical modeling. Cloud seeding research center has equipped with strong and efficient hardware for using numerical models especially the global weather model WRF and the particle dispersion in the atmosphere HYSPLIT for the following purposes:
Locating the ground based generators in the western and northwestern provinces
Determining the target area affected by the seeding material in each seeding operation
In addition to the above, center during the last two years designed an ensemble system and succeeded to the daily evaluation of the cloud seeding operation, which is considered an outstanding progress in the field of the evaluation of the cloud seeding projects all over the world.
The modeling center is operating with the full equipment and intends to evaluate all of the cloud seeding flights with modeling method, to develop an operational weather forecasting coupled with a dispersion model to support the cloud seeding operations. Developing this forecasting system, the meteorological fields for distinct time period (for example 72 hours) are at least twice per days available. In addition to that, after forecasting, the necessary data would be available doing the post-processing.
